PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cost-effective, high yield method for producing a macrolide, and a treating method using the macrolide.SOLUTION: The method for making a macrolide or salt thereof comprises the steps of: reacting tylosin A or its salt with a specified piperidinyl compound and formic acid to form a 20-piperidinyl-tylosin compound, reacting the product with an acid in two steps to form a 23-hydroxy-20-piperidinyl-5-O-mycaminosyl-tylonolide compound, then activating it with an activating agent to form an activated compound, where the activated compound may be reacted again with piperidinyl compound. The treating method includes: preparation of the macrolide or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, administration of the macrolide or its salt in a therapeutically effective amount to an animal in need of treatment for a disease selected from the group consisting of pasteurellosis, porcine respiratory disease and bovine respiratory disease. |
