The method involves introducing ozonosphere gas into a process chamber (20). The ozonosphere gas is maintained in the process chamber with a disinfection concentration of 5 ppm or less by control of the introduction of the ozonosphere gas. The ozonosphere gas is maintained with the disinfection concentration for disinfection time, which suffices to disinfect a dish. The ozonosphere gas is introduced, while a door (22) closes an access port. The door is fully operated in an unlocked status. Log-5-reduction of bacteria such as bacterium Escherichia coli, is performed. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for disinfection of dishes in a dishwasher (2) a dishwasher for treatment of dishes (3) a method for operation of a dishwasher.
