The terminal i.e. smartphone (10), has an integrated laser pointer (12) for emitting laser beam (14), and a mechanical button (16) for controlling the laser pointer. A touch-sensitive screen (18) is provided for controlling functions of the terminal, where the terminal executes authentication of a user and enables the activation of the laser pointer for emitting the laser beam only with successful authentication during operation of the mechanical button. The laser pointer is held in activated condition only for a predetermined duration after the successful authentication. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a light pointing device integrated into a mobile communication terminal.
