PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a multiprocessor video encoder by determining a target size corresponding to the suitable number of bits which are to be used when an encoded version of a picture in a series of picture groups constituting a video sequence is generated.SOLUTION: A method includes the steps of: calculating a degree of a first fullness of a buffer in a picture encoded at a first point of time; acting on the degree of the first fullness and returning the degree to an estimated degree of a second fullness of a buffer in a picture encoded at a second point of time; and acting on the degree of the second fullness and returning a size to the initial target size of the picture. The first point of time corresponds to the most adjacent time when the precise degree of the fullness of the buffer in the encoded picture can be calculated, and the second point of time occurs after the first point of time. |
