PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of banding.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a reference address generator 354a for determining a pixel position; a pattern recognizer 354c for performing pattern matching between a predetermined pattern and a prescribed pixel line of image data; an address translator 354b for shifting the determined pixel position in a sub scanning direction when the pixel line in the sub scanning direction including a pixel at the determined pixel position is matched with the pattern; and an image path selector 358 for performing magnification processing on the pixel line in the sub scanning direction including the pixel located at the shifted pixel position.
