A power transmission coil is provided with a planar coil having a winding wire wound around a non-winding section, a cover for covering the planar coil from the top, a foreign matter detector provided on the non-winding section, and a power control circuit electrically connected to the planar coil and the foreign matter detector. The upper surface of the cover has a slope inclined toward the foreign matter detector. When the output from the foreign matter detector indicates that there is no foreign matter in the non-winding section, the power control circuit operates to transmit power via the planar coil. Further, when the output from the foreign matter detector indicates that there is foreign matter in the non-winding section, the power control circuit operates to suspend power transmission via the planar coil. The power transmission coil can detect small foreign matter that may generate heat. |
