Prepn. of a new parasite antigens comprises (a) extracting substances immunologically related to parasite antigens from an intermediate host that is specific to the parasite in question using an aq. extraction medium, and (b) isolating the extract. The antigens can be used to prepare antiparasitic vaccines (esp. against schistosomiasis). In an example, a vaccine against bilharziasis caused by Schistosoma mansoni is prepd. from hepatopancreatic extracts of the snail Biomphalaria glabrata. |
