<p>1526499 Cyclopentanol derivatives ROUSSEL UCLAF 27 Aug 1976 [29 Aug 1975] 35781/76 Heading C2C The invention comprises cyclopentanols of the formula when R 1 is carboxy, C 2-5 alkoxycarbonyl or hydroxymethyl; R 2 is H, 2-tetrahydropyranyl, C 1-4 aliphatic hydrocarbyl or COR<SP>1</SP>, when R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-12 alkyl or phenyl, both of which may be substituted by a radical of the formula COOA, wherein A is H, alkali methyl, ammonium or organo-substituted ammonium radical, alkyl or haloalkyl, and where R 1 is carboxy the salts thereof, with the provisos that when R 1 is COOH or a salt thereof or C 2-5 alkoxycarbonyl, R 2 is other than H or 2-tetrahydropyranyl and when R 1 is hydroxymethyl R 2 is other than the radical COR<SP>1</SP>, and their preparation by standard methods. The following intermediates and starting materials are also prepared: ethyl 2-oxo-5- {3 - [2 - (2,2,2 - trichloroethoxy)carbonylbenzoyloxy]oct - trans - 1 - enyl} - cyclopentane carboxylate; 2,2,2-trichloroethyl hydrogen phthalate; ethyl 2-oxo-5-(3-decanoyloxyoct-trans-1- enyl)cyclopentanecarboxylate ; ethyl 2-methoxy- 5 - (3 - methoxyoct - trans - 1 - enyl)cyclopent- 1 - enecarboxylate; ethyl 2 - oxo - 5 - (3 - methoxyoct - trans - 1 - enyl)cyclopentanecarboxylate; and 2,2,2 - trichloroethyl 3- chloroformylpropionate. Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral, rectal or parenteral administration, contain the above compounds of Formula I or salts thereof in association with pharmaceutical carriers or excipients. The compounds possess analgesic, anti-inflammatory and smooth muscle relaxant properties. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,355,992.</p> |
