PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that facilitates and enables early diagnosis of and clinical intervention in preeclampsia.SOLUTION: Provided are: a method for diagnosis of preeclampsia of a pregnant female mammal by detecting elevated levels of free hemoglobin, particularly free fetal hemoglobin, as biomarkers; and pharmaceutical compositions for prevention or treatment of preeclampsia containing α1-microglobulin.
