The present invention relates to an axle (10a) mounted on a vehicle chassis, the axle (10a) comprising a central box section (32a), a first support arm (36a) connected to a first wheel (30a) of the vehicle and mounted so that it can slide inside the central box section (32a), and a second support arm (34a) connected to a second wheel (28a) of the vehicle, the second support arm (34a) being capable of longitudinal translational movement inside the first support arm (36a), characterized in that the axle (10a) also comprises a guiding box section (33a) fixed to the central box section (32a), the guiding box section (33a) comprising a rectangular tube (45a) and defining an external annular volume comprised between the central box section (32a) and the tube (45a), and an internal volume comprised inside the tube (45a), the first support arm (36a) being housed inside the external annular volume and being able to be guided by the guiding box section (33a) along a first longitudinal translational path, the second support arm (34a) being housed inside the internal volume and being able to be guided by the guiding box section (33a) on a second longitudinal translational path.
