The printer has a pressure latch (10) comprising multiple ink jet nozzles for printing on a recording medium during a printing operation in a stationary position. The pressure latch rests upon a collecting container (14) during a rest operating mode in another stationary position. The collecting container comprises a tank (20) for humidification liquid (22). The humidification liquid is passed from the tank into a space (18) between the pressure latch and the collecting container. The tank is arranged at a long side of the collecting container.
