PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal medium showing simultaneously a very low rotational viscosity and a high value of optical anisotropy, therefor having an excellent phase characteristic and an excellent low-temperature behavior as well as a short response time.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal medium, which is a liquid crystal medium based on a mixture of polar compounds, contains at least one kind of compound represented by formula I, and a compound in which at least one kind of specific two benzene rings of 20 wt.% or more are bonded through a carbon-carbon triple bond on the basis of the whole mixture. |
