The method involves activating a control element of a vehicle. The vehicle ignition is activated independent of the actuation of the control element. A camera system is activated based on the actuation of the control element, to display an actual picture of the environment of the vehicle on a screen. A timer is activated based on the actuation of the control element. The camera system is deactivated at the time of expiration of the timer according to a predetermined time interval. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control system of a camera system; and (2) a vehicle.
