The method involves providing a list of present blanks (1) containing geometric data of each present blank. The design data including the geometric data of finished component (2) is read. The geometric data of finished component to-be manufactured is compared with the geometric data of each present blank. A determination is made whether the finished component to-be manufactured is produced by mechanical processing the respective blank. The blanks that produce the finished component to-be manufactured are selected as appropriate blanks. An independent claim is included for a data processing device.
