610,920. Lathe centres. HUANT, V. C. April 9, 1946, No. 10924. Convention date, May 18, 1945. [Class 83 (iii)] A centre 1 is slidably carried in a member 3 and is prevented from rotating therein by a stud 4 and a longitudinal groove 5, a spring 6 absorbing axial loads on the centre. The stroke of the centre is defined in one direction by a shoulder 13 which abuts against a cap 14 and in the other direction by the member 3 having a collar 15 bearing against an annular series of balls 16. Roller bearings 11, 12 permit rotation of the supporting member inside a socket 10. In an alternative construction, the socket is dispensed with and the supporting member is rigidly connected to a lathe, the stroke of the centre being defined by a collar thereon. The outward and inward movement of the collar is limited by a cap and a thrust plate respectively, attached to the supporting member. |
