A disc-drive mechanism for a positive-displacement machine, where the disc drive comprises a one-piece disc-set 9 that is rotatably mounted on a crankpin 13 of the mechanism within a crankcase. The crankcase has an aperture capable of receiving the disc-set entered axially into the crankcase for assembly with the crankpin within the crankcase. Adjacent discs 10, 11 of the one-piece disc-set are of a contour and axially spaced to fit within the profile of the crankcase cylinder bores and during entry into the crankcase for assembly of the mechanism, to straddle yokes 3, 4 of inline pistons 1, 2 and a central main bearing 16 and the cylinder walls of the mechanism. The mechanism may be operative according to an Atkinson split-cycle with inline expander and compressor pistons separate expander and compressor crankpins and separate expander and compressor disc pairs. A method of assembly is also claimed. |
