A method of providing a pump 110 connected to a power cable 120 with a smooth surface involves the use of a stuffing box 132-2 with a valve configured to form a seal with the smooth surface of the power cable 120 in a closed state and to form a passage for the pump 110 as connected to the power cable 120 in an open state. A lubricator 134 is provided and provides a passage to accommodate the pump 110. A blow-out protector 136-1 with a valve is configured to form a seal with the smooth surface of the power cable 120 in a closed state and to form a passage for the pump 110 as connected to the power cable 120 in an open state. The states of the valves are controlled while lowering the pump 110 via the power cable 120 through the stuffing box 132-2, the lubricator 134, and the blow-out protector 136-1 to position the pump 110 into a bore of a well. Also claimed is a controller having control logic to control the valves and a completion having a Christmas tree positioned above valve units which seal with a cable connected to a pump. |
