A password authentication system and a password authentication method using consecutive password authentication are disclosed. The password authentication system according to the present invention comprises: a password authentication unit for setting a password composed of an original password and information on a movement value, applying inversely, if the password to which the movement value is applied is input from a user, the movement value to the input password to obtain the original password, and performing authentication; a protection mode switching unit for switching, if the authentication fails, to a protection mode that requires two or more consecutive authentications; and a protection mode control unit for requesting the user to consecutively input a first password and a second password, determining the user password authentication as a success if the input user passwords consecutively succeed, and canceling the protection mode. According to the present invention, the authentication can be processed by requesting consecutive authentication of the user password to which the movement value is applied, thereby maintaining higher security.
