615,245. Motor vehicle steering gear. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. March 29, 1946, No. 9746. Convention date, May 30, 1945. [Class 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXXII] The steering system for a pair of independently suspended wheels of a motor vehicle (see Group XXXII) comprises a steering column 22 operating a drop-arm 24 connected by a ball-joint 25 to a transverse tie-rod 26 and to a connecting link 27; the latter is pivotally attached to the wheel-steering arm 28. On the other side of the frame, an idler arm 29 replaces the drop-arm 24. The pivotal connections between the drop arm (or idler arm), tie-rod and connecting link are arranged to fall at substantially the same point, an integrated ball-joint construction being thus made possible. |
