PURPOSE:To obtain a heat pretreatment type heat developing photosensitive material capable of forming a high-gamma image with high sensitivity and having superior raw stock preservability by blending a specified imide or amide compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound such as N-chloromethylsuccinimide or N-chloromethylacetamide represented by formula I or II is used. In the formula I or II, each of X1 and X2 is halogen; each of R1-R6 is H, alkyl or aryl; Z is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to form a 5- 6-membered heterocyclic ring; and each of A1 and A2 is carbonyl or sulfonyl. An oxidation-reduction image forming component (A) consisting of a reducible org. silver salt such as silver behenate and a reducing agent such as hydroquinone is blended with sensitive silver halide (B), a binder (C) such as polyvinyl butyral and said compound (D) to prepare a heat developing photosensitive element, which is then applied to a support to form a photosensitive layer.
