BUMPER OF A MOTOR VEHICLE WITH A SUPPORT STRUCTURE

A bumper of a motor vehicle with a support structure comprising a bumper crossmember extending primarily in the transverse direction of the vehicle is already known. The bumper crossmember is divided into a central section and two lateral sections which are connected releasably to each other. The problem addressed by the invention is that of providing a bumper of a motor vehicle with a support structure which can be readily calibrated geometrically and functionally for different derivatives of the motor vehicle. According to the invention, the support structure of the bumper comprises a bumper crossmember extending primarily in the transverse direction (y) of the vehicle and two bumper longitudinal members (4) which are parallel to each other and extend in the longitudinal direction (x) of the vehicle. In this case, the bumper longitudinal members (4) are each attached by one end section to the end region of a longitudinal member of the motor vehicle body. Using the other end section, said bumper longitudinal members hold the bumper crossmember such that the latter is divided into two lateral sections (3) and a central section (2) between the two bumper longitudinal members (4). A bumper longitudinal member (4) and a lateral section (3) of the bumper crossmember are formed integrally from an extruded profile.
