PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll coating method and a roll coating apparatus, for efficiently applying a thin film whose coating film thickness after drying is <0.1 μm without defects to a base material continuously traveling at a high speed. SOLUTION: When installing a precoater B on the upstream side of a 3-roll coater A and executing such coating to the base material 1 that the coating film thickness after drying is <0.1 μm, while a coating liquid 13 (the same kind as a coating liquid 3) on the base material 1 coated by the precoater B is in a liquid state, the coating liquid 3 is applied on it by the 3-roll coater A.
