The invention relates to a worm-wheel step-up gear or reduction gear which has a worm (1) which is provided with helical threads (2, 3) which run in opposite directions and are in contact with two wheels (12, 13 and 14, 15 respectively) which rotate in opposite directions. Each wheel is connected to a gearwheel (20, 23; 21, 22). Two (20, 22) of the gearwheels are in engagement with an internally toothed gear ring (25) which is keyed to a tubular output shaft (26), while the two other gearwheels (23, 21) are in engagement with an externally toothed gearwheel (24) which is keyed to a shaft (27) which passes coaxially through the first-mentioned shaft. The gear can be used, for example, for controlling the windscreen wipers of a motor vehicle. <IMAGE>
