<p>A method for fitting a scleral lens prosthesis to the eye of a patient is provided, comprising the steps of determining an imaginary circle with a diameter D on the sclera (1) of the eye substantially concentrically with the cornea (2) and at a position starting from which the scleral lens prosthesis in an outward direction is intended to contact the sclera; defining a first imaginary plane (5) extending through said imaginary circle; determining the part of the cornea having the largest distance from said first imaginary plane (6); determining a second imaginary plane (7) in parallel to the first imaginary plane and at a predetermined distance s above said part of the cornea having the largest distance from said plane; determining the distance d between the first imaginary plane and the second imaginary plane; and providing a scleral lens prosthesis with a circular base edge with diameter D' and an intermediate most elevated part with height d' above the base edge, and having such a geometry that the distance between the intermediate most elevated part thereof and the first imaginary plane is kept equal to d. Preferably d' is calculated from D, D' and d on the assumption that the imaginary circle is positioned on a part of the sclera which defines a ball shaped body with a predetermined radius.</p> |
