A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding a concatenated low density generator matrix code in a communication system are provided to reduce hardware complexity for handling the LDGM code by encoding and decoding the LDGM code using a single decoder. A decoder includes an LDGM(Low Density Generator Matrix) decoder(511) and an interleaver(513). Received bits are delivered to the LDGM decoder. The LDGM decoder decodes the received bits corresponding to an inner parity check matrix and outputs the decoded result to the interleaver. The interleaver receives and interleaves the output signal from the LDGM decoder according to a predetermined interleaving scheme, and outputs the interleaved result to the LDGM decoder. The output signal from the interleaver is delivered to the LDGM decoder. The LDGM decoder decodes the output signal from the interleaver according to an external parity check matrix and outputs the decoded bits. |
