PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool on which a hard coating layer comprising a double phase mixed layer is formed to exhibit excellent chipping resistance and wear resistance during the cutting of a high hardness steel such as a hardened steel. SOLUTION: In this surface-coated cutting tool, the hard coating layer comprising the double phase mixed layer of cBN phase and a TiN phase is formed on the surface of the base of the tool. The volumetric ratio of the cBN phase in the hard coating layer is 40-80%, and the remaining is formed of the mixed phase of an amorphous TiN phase and a crystal TiN phase. The area ratio of the amorphous TiN phase to the mixed phase is 30-80%. The surfaces of the cBN particles are coated with the amorphous TiN phase. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
