PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sizing agent which has heat-mechanical stability, has excellent size performance in using the sizing agent and offers paper which is improved in slipping. SOLUTION: In the sizing agent, which has 2-oxetanone functional group for manufacturing paper which contains calcium carbonate under neutrality or alkaline conditions, content of 2-oxetanone compound which has a branched structure in alkyl group or alkenyl group as a hydrophobic group in the 2-oxetanone compound is 60-90 mass%.
