PURPOSE:To enhance the adsorbing capacity of carbon monoxide, by a method wherein activated carbon is impregnated with a solution of copper (I) halide or copper (II) halide and aluminum halide in a specific solvent and, after the removal of the solvent, the impregnated activated carbon is treated at 80 deg.C or more. CONSTITUTION:Copper (I) halide or copper (II) halide and aluminum halide are dissolved in one or more kind of a solvent selected from water, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, formic acid, acetic acid and aqueous ammonia to prepare a solution which is, in turn, infiltrated in activated carbon or graphite to distill off the solvent. Activated carbon or graphite after the distillation of the solvent is treated at 80 deg.C or more in a flowing inert gas or reductive gas atmosphere to prepare a carbon monoxide adsorbent. As copper (I) halide and copper (II) halide, there are chlorides, fluorides, bromides and iodides of copper (I) and copper (II).
|
