PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use a capacity while maintaining reliability with respect to recording operation for a multi-layer recording medium.SOLUTION: In the recording medium having multiple layers, tracks as continuous recording regions are formed on the multiple layers for data recording in the tracks, information recording is performed corresponding to a request from a host device. In the case where a layer in the recording medium is determined to be in the unrecordable state in this process of the recording operation, the host device is made to be in the recognizable state for all of the tracks in the layer are unrecordable. |
