PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine having an exhaust cleaning device capable of suppressing discharge of HC and smoke in exhaust.SOLUTION: A diesel engine includes a fuel injection system 14 which performs main injection and pilot injection and an exhaust cleaning device 15. The pilot injection injects fuel of an amount less than the main injection before a piston reaches a compression top dead point. On an exhaust passage 41, an oxide catalyst 50 and a particulate filter 51 which form a part of the exhaust cleaning device 15 are arranged. A control part 16 which functions as control means compares a temperature of the oxide catalyst 50 which is detected or estimated by catalyst temperature acquisition means such as a temperature sensor, with a predetermined temperature and, when the temperature of the oxide catalyst 50 is the predetermined temperature or less, the time of the pilot injection is set as an initial value of the delay angle side from the predetermined value. When the temperature of the oxide catalyst 50 exceeds the predetermined temperature, the time of the pilot injection is advanced from the initial value to the predetermined value and the pilot injection is performed. |
