PURPOSE:To contrive labor saving to a large extent by automating prime- coating work, by using non-metallic paint having a color akin to that of the metallic paint of top coat as prime-coat. CONSTITUTION:Chemical forming treatment is applied to the surface of the outer box constituting a storage chamber such as a refrigerator to form a chemical forming film 6 and non-metallic paint 7 is subsequently applied to said outer box 1 by automatic electrostatic painting to perform prime-coating. Next, a metallic paint 8 having an aluminum powder mixed therewith is sprayed by air to perform top coat painting. At this time, by making the color of the non-metallic paint 7 akin to that of the metallic paint 8, the base color of the outer box 1 is not seen through and good metallic feeling can be held.
