PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress power consumption of a backlight at executing local dimming and appropriately set brightness of the backlight in proportionate with the gradation value of an image.SOLUTION: An area-active control part 11 divides an input image into plural zones, determines a representative gradation value of each zone to be any of the maximum gradation value of each zone, the average gradation value thereof, and a gradation value determined from the maximum and average gradation valued, on the basis of presence of a sub-zone having a gradation value larger than a predetermined gradation value in the divided each zone, and the number of sub-zones in the case of a sub-zone having a gradation value larger than the predetermined gradation value being present. Further, the area-active control part changes a lighting ratio of a light source corresponding to each respective zone on the basis of the determined representative gradation value. |
