PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the light extraction efficiency and the directivity of a light emitting device.SOLUTION: A light emitting device 10 includes a translucent member 31 which is provided in a direction parallel with a surface 20a of a substrate 20 relative to a light emitting element 11 and allows light emitted from the light emitting element 11 to enter to the inside. The translucent member 31 includes a side surface 31a for reflecting at least the light travelling in the direction parallel with the surface 20a of the substrate 20, from among the light entering into the translucent member 31, in a direction away from the surface 20a of the substrate 20; and a front surface 31b which emits the light reflected by the side surface 31a to the outer side.
