PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch device and a method for controlling data transfer capable of preventing reduction of throughput of read access with simple constitution.SOLUTION: A switch device 300 for connecting a first host system 100 and a second host system 200 which transfer data to each other includes an output buffer 320 and a buffer control section 340. The output buffer 320 temporarily stores a write packet for indicating a data writing request from the first host system 100 to the second host system 200 or a read request packet for indicating a data reading request from the first host system 100 to the second host system 200. The buffer control section 340 performs control by suspending transmission of the write packet from the first host system 100 when the number of write packets in the output buffer 320 is equal to or exceeds a threshold.
