摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of an ordinary drive system, which does not have an electrical storage device included in a direct-current part of a main circuit, that since necessary excitation energy cannot be preserved for activation of an induction generator, a compact, inexpensive, and highly reliable induction machine cannot be used as a generator.SOLUTION: In a drive system for railroad vehicles including an induction generator to be driven by an engine, a first power converter that converts alternating-current (AC) power outputted from the induction generator into direct-current (DC) power, a smoothing capacitor that smooths the DC power outputted from the first power converter, and a second power converter that drives a driving AC electric motor using the smoothing capacitor as a DC voltage source, electrical storage means for feeding power to an on-board control device and a contactor connected between the electrical storage means and the smoothing capacitor are included. The electrical storage means is used to charge the smoothing capacitor with the contactor closed, and power with which the smoothing capacitor is charged is used to feed current, with which a generating action is initiated, to the induction generator.
