PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of mounting a port on a main device, the number of the ports being larger than the number of value which can be represented by a bit length of data showing a logical port ID without changing the bit length.SOLUTION: A port management method: performs grouping of a plurality of ports (extension port, external port, recording port) for each of port managers 14 to 16 to allocate a logical port ID (ID number) to the plurality of ports, the logical port ID being not overlapped between the ports belonging to the same group; manages a correspondence relation between a group to which each port belongs and a physical port ID (channel number) and the logical port ID in a port ID memory 17; and informs, when an event occurs in any one of ports, the port managers 14 to 16 in charge of the group to which the port belongs of an event request with a designation of the logical port ID (ID number) corresponding to the group to which the port belongs and the physical port ID. |
