PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a failure of a switching element of a power converter for supplying electric power to each phase of an AC motor/generator and further identifying a failed point when the switching element has an open-circuit failure.SOLUTION: The present invention gives a firing command to IGBTs Q1-Q6 one by one while AC motor/generator 10 is rotating, detects the presence/absence of a current flow with current detectors 22a, 22b, 22c during firing command application and, in the absence of a current flow, the IGBT which has applied a firing command is determined to have an open-circuit failure. |
