[Problem] To prevent anti-aliasing font characters on the monitor from being falsely identified as an image area. [Solution] Given a pixel of interest, that pixel and four previous and succeeding pixels (a total of nine pixels) are extracted (S3). For the nine extracted pixels, the largest value of the sub-pixels is set as the representative value of each of the pixels (S5). A histogram of the representative values of the nine pixels is taken, and H0, H1, H2... are set starting from the representative value having the highest distribution (S7). It is determined whether formula (1) is satisfied (S9). H0+H1+H2 < TH ... (1).
