PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, a method for controlling an image forming apparatus, and a control program for an image forming apparatus, capable of suppressing image noise.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a secondary transfer belt 22 that rotates, an imaging unit that forms a toner patch image on the secondary transfer belt 22, and an upstream brush CB1 and a downstream brush CB2 that remove the patch image from the secondary transfer belt 22 by contacting the secondary transfer belt 22 while the brushes are rotating. A length p of the patch image along the rotation direction of the secondary transfer belt 22, which is the length of the patch image formed by the imaging unit, a distance b1 where the secondary transfer belt 22 moves by rotation while the upstream brush CB1 rotates once, and a distance b2 where the secondary transfer belt 22 rotates while the downstream brush CB2 rotates once, satisfy an expression of p≤|b1-b2|. |
