ARTIFICIAL PAIRING AND REPRODUCTION METHOD FOR BIG-HEADED TURTLES

An artificial pairing and reproduction method for big-headed turtles comprises source selection, domestication before pairing, setting of a reproduction pool, pairing and reproduction, collection and incubation of turtle eggs, etc. The method takes full consideration of ecological and biological characteristics of big-headed turtles, which comprise ethological characteristics, feeding behavior characteristics, inhabitation environment characteristics, reproduction ecological characteristics, and the like. By adopting the method, the major problems in artificial pairing and reproduction of big-headed turtles can be effectively solved, the problems comprising seed selection, pairing, pairing period selection, sex ratio, density, feed, reproduction and setting of the incubation environment, thereby significantly reducing injuries and deaths in the reproduction and mating processes, clearly increasing the oviposition rate of female turtles and the incubation rate of turtle eggs, implementing efficient and artificial reproduction of big-headed turtles, acquiring healthy turtle hatchlings, so as to provide technical support for expanding the breeding population of big-headed turtles, promoting protection of species, developing large-scale breeding. Also, the method requires little human power and low cost, is easy to operate, and facilitates the promotion of artificial breeding of big-headed turtles.
