The present invention relates to a communication relay capable of detecting harmonics disturbance and a control method thereof. The communication relay supporting a first communication network and a second communication network according to the present invention comprises: a storage unit having a channel group containing a plurality of channel information of the first communication network; a power detection unit for extracting channel information from the channel group stored in the storage unit and detecting a power level of signals received by each channel which corresponds to the extracted channel information; a target channel decision unit for deciding a channel in which a power level greater than a reference level as a result of power level detection of the power detection unit; a harmonics disturbance decision unit for deciding the situation which the number of channels decided in the target channel decision unit is greater than a predetermined reference number as a harmonics disturbance which harmonics components of signals transmitted to the second communication network enter the first communication network; and a notification signal transmission unit for generating and transmitting a harmonics disturbance notification signal when there is a harmonics disturbance as a result of decision of the harmonics disturbance decision unit.
