The present invention proposes a method and apparatus for providing a video communication service in a communication system. According to the present invention, the method comprises, in a process of establishing a session between a first terminal and a second terminal: a step in which the first terminal transmits, to the second terminal, resolution information and color information of an image transmittable and receivable by the first terminal; a step in which the first terminal receives, from the second terminal, resolution information and color information of an image transmittable and receivable by the second terminal; and a step in which the first terminal compresses an image based on the received resolution information and color information, and transmits the compressed image to the second terminal. |
