The safety belt lock (20) has a holding mechanism for holding an inserted insert latch and a safety belt lock housing (10) which comprises two shell portions (30,40). A rod-shaped latch element (70) is mounted on the former shell portion and is inserted along the longitudinal direction into a latch receiver (80) of the latter shell portion and is held there by latch fin pairs. The two latch fins lie at an angle at opposite sides of the latch element at a latch edge formed on the surface of the latch element. An independent claim is included for a method for connecting two shell portions of a safety belt lock housing of a safety belt lock for an insert latch of a vehicle safety belt.
