This invention has a method for controlling a retrieval device for retrieving data, that is, this invention has metadata schema management information for managing in an inclusive manner a namespace alias and a metadata name for the retrieval device to identify a metadata schema definition defining the structure of a retrieval-target file that includes metadata, retrieval index schema management information for managing a retrieval index schema definition that includes a field name of the retrieval-target file and defines the structure of retrieval index data, and schema mapping management information for managing the corresponding relationship between a metadata name of metadata schema definition information and a field name of the retrieval index schema definition, wherein the retrieval device receives a retrieval request, extracts at least one of an alias or a metadata name from the retrieval request, converts the alias to the metadata name by referring to the metadata schema management information, and specifies a field name from the metadata name by referring to the schema mapping management information.
