A method for treating a cassava pulp, said method comprising: adding alpha-amylase, glucoamylase and an alcohol fermentation yeast to a cassava pulp that has a water content of 30 mass% or greater and in-tube mixing the resultant mixture (blending step S1); feeding the mixture thus mixed from a feeding port formed in the upper part of a reaction tank and retaining the same therein for 4 hours or longer to perform alcohol fermentation (blending step S2); discharging the reaction product from a discharge port formed in the bottom of the reaction tank; subjecting the same to solid-liquid separation; and then purifying ethanol in a post-step. According to this method, ethanol can be synthesized from the cassava pulp in a single reaction tank without conducting agitation or temperature control, different from the conventional methods wherein, after the completion of liquefaction, saccharification and fermentation treatments are to be conducted in another reaction vessel. Thus, the cassava pulp can be effectively utilized in an efficient and energy-saving way.
|
