PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing terephthalic acid capable of recycling a large amount of waste water generated during producing terephthalic acid as industrial water (cooling water) and/or process water and capable of reducing a volume of new water-intake from a water source and a drainage volume to a public water area, thereby having enhanced economical efficiency and environmental compatibility.SOLUTION: The process for producing terephthalic acid comprises the steps of: making water generated from the process for producing terephthalic acid membrane-permeated water by membrane separation treatment while and/or after performing activated sludge treatment; and recovering the membrane-permeated water.
