PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anode catalyst for use in a hydrogen electrode having excellent CO poisoning resistance characteristics and capable of reducing the amount of noble metal to be used in a solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell, and to provide a fuel cell using the same.SOLUTION: The anode catalyst for fuel cell is a catalyst produced by carrying a catalyst metal on a carbon carrier. The catalyst metal is composed of an alloy containing Pt and Ru as main components, and the carbon carrier is a porous carbon carrier satisfying the following conditions (a)-(d). In addition, a fuel cell using the anode catalyst is provided. (a) nitrogen BET specific surface area: 1500 m/g or more and 4000 m/g or less, (b) oxygen content: 1.0 mass% or more and 10.0 mass% or less, (c) total acidity: 20 μeq/g or more and 1000 μeq/g or less, (d) strong acid functional group amount: 0.1% or more and 10.0% or less of total acidity. |
