<p>Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for performing multi-hop routing and preventing looping. When multi-hop routing is performed by using a session based broadcasting method in order to transmit a message packet to multiple destination nodes which are located beyond a transmission range from a source node in a wireless network including multiple sensor nodes and active radio frequency identification (RFID) devices, the apparatus and the method for performing multi-hop routing and preventing looping according to the present invention:(1) determine a range of multi-hop routing to receive a response packet from the destination nodes within a predetermined time when a session is open; and (2) prevent looping, wherein looping occurs due to a characteristic of a broadcasting communication method in which anyone can receive a packet so that each node transmits a received packet again, thereby continuously receiving and transmitting a packet.
