The invention relates to a method for the catalytic oligomerization of hydrocarbons, comprising the steps of providing a mixture which contains accompanying substances in addition to the hydrocarbons to be oligomerized, purifying the mixture by placing the mixture in contact with a purification bed and oligomerizing the hydrocarbons by placing the purified mixture in contact with a catalyst. The aim of the invention is to find a strong, irreversibly effective adsorption means having high adsorption capacity for the purification. Said aim is achieved by using an adsorption means which contains at least 10 wt % of metallic nickel and which demonstrates pyrophoric properties under normal atmosphere, under normal pressure and at a temperature of 20°C.
