Disclosed is a linear scale such that the physical space required for the wiring of a combination scale is reduced and the installation of the combination scale at an installation site can be made simple. The combination scale (43) has a plurality of unit scales (51, 52) arranged in a column and has a common channel (61); the coil for each unit scale is connected to the common channel and thereby the coils of all the unit scales are connected in parallel. Further, an electrical resistance (56) connected to the coil of each unit scale, acts as an impedance adjustment unit, adjusting the impedance of the unit scale. The electrical resistance has a resistance value for which the impedance difference of the unit scale (greater than or equal to 100 times the aforementioned impedance difference) can be ignored. The common channel is formed by connecting a plurality of common channel segments (61A), by joining together the two end connectors (62), with the coil of each unit scale connected thereto. <o> </o> |
